Sunny joy, Voorschoten
I was asked to create a sketch for a private garden in Voorschoten. The owner was mainly looking for someone to guide her through the design and planting process. The garden is in full sun, so extra attention was given to plants that could withstand the summer on sandy soil with minimal maintenance.
The garden needed to accommodate quite a few functions: somewhere to sit, somewhere to lie down, storage, and, above all, a place to enjoy.
Together, we created a sketch and a simple planting plan. The plants will be planted in late spring, and I’m looking forward to seeing the result.
Practice exam
After completing my studies at the Ontwerp Academie in Boskoop, I had to complete a practical exam to earn my diploma as a Planting Design Advisor.
I had eight weeks to create a design, which I completed with interviews with two professionals from the field.
Japanese style planting, The Hague
With an appreciation for Japanese gardens and a love of English gardens, I helped this client transform her shady garden in Benoordenhout, The Hague.
The use of sculpture creates depth and a unique artistic character, while ferns bring a rich and lush atmosphere to the garden.
During the design process, the long-term gardener provided valuable insight into the wetter areas of the garden. One of the clients wanted to keep his sunny spot, while the teenage daughter wanted a place for a hammock.
In short, the goal was to design and create an enjoyable space for everyone surrounded by lush planting. A wonderful collaboration.
